Slaney A`s Win 6 th. Cup (over 31 seasons)

Having failed to retain the Med Bar Cup recently, Slaney A`s bounced back to win the Divisional Cup. Up against Nurney, Slaney took the lead from a fine finish from Dominic Byrne > a lead they held for most of the game. But the newest Premier side, Nurney equalised in last ten minutes and took the lead in extra time and looked the more likely winners. Slaney had to dig deep to turn this one around and showed great character, that in the space of six minutes, they equalised from a spot kick from Dominic Byrne and Alan Ryan finished off a pass from Declan Brennan to bring the Cup back to Rathvilly. With this win, Slaney I`st. team got back to winning ways in Cup finals > having played seven > lost one and won six > Normal Service Has Resumed! Well done to John Mc Farland, Andrew Smith, Michael Foley, Stephen Darcy, Shane Murphy, Shane Dempsey, Ed Finnegan, Mark Ryan ( Captain), Paddy Farrell, Dominic Byrne, Daniel O Brien, Alan Ryan, Brian Leonard, Declan Brennan ,Alan Kelly, Keith Dempsey.

Med Bar Cup Final

New Oak Boys (4) v`s Slaney Rovers (2)...After conceding a goal on the half hour, Slaney got a deserved equaliser from a fine finish from Ed Finnegan and were well in contension until a crazy 10 mins in 2 nd.half and some clinical finishing from New Oak, put them 4 one up and their name on the cup.

Wexford Division 2 Cup Winners

With Slaney U 14`s finding St. Pats too strong in their Final, and the A Team (despite scoring twice ) could find no answer to the clinical finishing of New Oak in the Med Bar Cup Final, it was left to the Slaney Ladies to bring silverware to Rathvilly. It did not look good when Forth Celtic scored early on but Slaney never panicked and scored a deserved equaliser from the penalty spot by Mary Cunningham. To break the dead lock in the 2`nd. half, it was going to take a moment of magic – cue Catherine Dempsey, as she start a run on the left wing, cut inside and hit a rasper to the far corner, to ensure Slaney lifted the Cup. For Catherine performance on the day earned her the `Player of the Final ` award but for Josephine Dunne, Mary Cunningham, Sabrina Darcy and Carole Mc Grath who are the only survivors from the Ladies debue season 03 / 04 - this was a day worth savouring. Well done the 09 / 10 Cup Winners - Josephine Dunne, Edel O Brien, Sabrina Darcy, Mary Cunningham, Leona Leonard, Marian Hande, Maggie Nolan, Sinaed Morris, Michelle Kehoe, Catherine Dempsey, Carole Mc Grath, Andrea O Brien, Maggie Farrell, Ciara Finnegan, Kerry Lee Nolan, Lisa Kelly.
