Slaney Search For New Home Venue

After 34 years of soccer in Rathvilly, Slaney Rovers AFC find themselves in the unfortunate situation where they have to vacate their present home pitch, - a location that has been kindly donated by the Byrne family, Maplestown. We would like to thank them for their generosity over the past 20 years. We are now trying to locate new grounds in the Rathvilly area, to continue with our 79 juveniles players and 68 senior … men/ladies …. members. If any landowner has land for lease or sale - please contact our club phone at 0857359229 or club Chairman Brian Curran`s phone at 0861611194

Ladies Lose By The Odd Goal In Five To Harps

The very first final of the season, took place last Sunday, with Slaney Ladies losing by the odd goal in five to Hanover Harps in the Women`s Division One Cup Final. If only Slaney had played, half as well in the first half as they did after the break, there would have been a different outcome. Behind 2 nil, Slaney got a foothold in the game when Mary Coady scored from the penalty spot, bringing her career total to 44 goals in 139 appearances. With Slaney forcing the game looking for an equaliser, Harps scored a 3rd. on the break. Slaney having finally got their passing game together, scored the goal of the game....starting from goalie Leona Leonard and four passes later, Chloe Farrell had the ball in the Harps net. And in the dying moments Chloe again got in behind the Harps defence whereas in the semi final in a similar situation, she scored to keep Slaney in the cup this time around, the ball trickled wide…..it just was not to be.
