Slaney Rovers would like to thank every body for their support during the year and to wish everybody a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

3 rd.Prize - South East Draw

Slaney had a winner in the Dec. draw of the South East Draw with Bill Byrne, Fr. Cullen Terrace, winning 3 rd. prize, having purchased a ticket, from this years top seller of the 40 Euro tickets - Catherine Deering. Full list of this months seventy prizewinners, is on display in the local post office and also available on request, from any committee members. This is the 2 nd. year running for Bill, to win to win a prize in the Dec. draw but he will find it hard to get this one down the chimney for Christmas, as it is, a 42? Plasma TV. Well done to Bill. The next draw takes place on Jan. 2 nd. and best of luck to all who supported.

7.300 Euro Jackpot Won

Christmas came early for John Keogh, 10 St. Patrick`s Park, Tullow, who was the sole winner of the 7,300 Euro Jackpot in the Slaney Rovers Lotto Draw held on 17 th. November, 2008. The winning numbers of 5, 13, 26, 30 proved to be the lucky ones for John, who originally lived in St. Patrick?s Park, Rathvilly and despite moving to a similar address in Tullow, always `kept the faith` in the Slaney Rovers Lotto and has now reaped the rewards. Congratulations John and enjoy the Christmas.

Carlow Cup - Nov. 9 th.2008

Slaney Rovers (2) v`s Rathanna (2) It took a penalty shoot out to separate Slaney and Rathanna . Despite taking the lead through Stephen Darcy in the 1 st half and Mark Ryan in 2 `nd., Rathanne fought back twice to send the game to extra time and penalties. Successful penalty takers were Stephen Murphy, Mark Ryan, Robbie Sheridan and Alan Ryan to win 4 .. 3.

Under 12 League - Nov. 15 th.2008

Burrin Celtic (3) v`s Slaney Rovers (9).. The most goals scored in a game this season by the Under 12`s has been 3, but that all changed last weekend, when they put nine passed a young Burrin Celtic side in Ballon, with Paul Curran scoring 4, Brendan Behan 2 and one each from Ger Kavanagh, Conor Owens and Glen Byrne.

1`st Ever Win In SFAI Cup

Southend (1) v`s Slaney Rovers (2).. A blue ribbon day for Slaney Juveniles ..(October 12 th ,2008).. when the club reached a milestone with its first ever win in outside competition with Slaney U 16`s defeated Southend 1 .. 2 in the SFAI Cup. Despite the fact that they were one nil at the break, and beginning to wonder if the early start and the long journey to the far side of Kilkenny was worth it, Slaney turned it around in the 2`nd. half, with two well taken goals from Donal Smith, in what was a great team performance .Team - Regan Murphy, Paul Kelly, Mike McGuinness, Donal Kelly, Allan Doyle, Adam Lawlor, Shane Doyle, Andrew Sibbald, Gary Owens, Donal Smith, Aaron Murphy, Adrian Doyle. Mentors Damien O Callaghan and Tommy Donegan. It`s a week short from fourteen years since Tommy Donegan, entered the first Slaney team in the old Carlow Schoolboys League at U 14 level, and he`s still going strong. If Tommy ever decides, to call it a day, he has another feather in his cap .. 1`st. ever win in SFAI Cup.

Wexford League - Nov.23 rd..2008

Slaney Rovers (1) v`s St.Joseph`s (0)... Slaney Ladies got an early Christmas present in the top of the table clash against St.Joseph`s. In a game that chances were scarce from both sides and heading for a nil all draw, when an error from a Saint defender gifted a penalty to the home side. Up stepped Mary Coady, to calmly score for full points and reach a personal millstone of 25 goals in a Slaney jersey.

Under 9`s - Nov. 22 nd..2008

UNDER 9 (Blue)- Slaney Rovers (2) v`s Milltown (5)-Slaney U 9`s Blue did the very opposite with scoring first, only to conceded five. Scorer or Slaney`s second was Brandon Murphy but the open goal was the pick of the lot with Daniel Behan, after evading a couple of tackles, passed the ball between two oncoming defenders, into the path of Adam Byrne whose first time shot gave the keeper no chance. Slaney Rovers (6) v`s Milltown (2)- Slaney U 9`s waited until they were two nil down before they hit back with six which included three og`s, a brace from Diarmuid Gavin and a solo effort from Dillon O Toole.

U 16 League - Nov. 22 nd. 2008

St. Fiacc`s (1) v`s Slaney Rovers (1) ? This top of the table clash saw second and third play each other and neither team will be happy with the draw as they both lost ground on leaders Parkville. Fiacc`s started the better and took the lead early in the first half. This Slaney team never gives up and found themselves level when a brilliant through ball from Donal Smith, put Gary Owens in one ?on ?one with the keeper and he calmly slotted home the equaliser. Slaney grew in confidence and had a great chance to win the game with a free kick but Aaron Murphy hit the post.

Under 14 League - Nov. 15 th.

St.Joseph?s (4) v`s Slaney Rovers (1) .. Slaney U14`s were hit by two early strikes in Tinryland, from which they never recovered, leaving St Joseph`s with a 3 point lead over Slaney in the U 14 Division. Slaney`s only reply was from Adarin Doyle who scored direct from a free kick.

Under 16 Girls League ?Oct 4 th

Slaney Rovers (2) v`s Fastnet (3) Two well-taken goals from Leeanne Tumalty and Emma Murphy were not enough as Slaney lost at home by the odd goal in five.

White`s Div. - Nov.23 rd. 2008

Baltinglass (1) v`s Slaney Rovers (2)...Slaney came out on top in this derby by the odd goal in three. It took an equaliser from Michael Foley and a late goal from David Nolan to earn full points in a game that could have went either way.
